Over 27 years Maria Rickert and her family have worked hard to create an 'oasis' on their 8,000 acre property in the Pilliga Forest in Western NSW. Alongside her pottery business and farmstay, she has built up a peaceful and creative place where it is possible to live a holistic life. She shares this place with her two sons Johannes and Bernhard, her foster children, staff, and many workers from around the world who come to the farm through the WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) initiative.

Although many people are involved with the day-to-day operation of the farm and business, Maria is the driving force behind it all, inspiring the others with her energy and love of hard work. As a result her day is a very full one!

Students from Coonabarabran High School worked with ABC Open Producer Ana Tovey to produce this video, as part of the ABC Open Day in the Life project
