This piece was created in 2013 for the Vertical City Festival in Stavinger, Norway.
My lifelong interest in design and architecture intersects with my conceptual studies of time and motion in this piece, made up of several short stop-motion films I directed over 30 years, plus additional animated computer models created over the last few years in Maya, as well as a series of photos I took in a beach community for this project. I chose a vertical format to emphasize how the verticality of our cities contrasts with the human scale of the supine woman.
AS we develop the communities of tomorrow, we need to bear in mind as artists, designers, and of course, community members, how the aging of our population effects the compression of space and time afforded by vertical living.
