As one of the oldest woman pastors in Washington D.C, Rev. Dr. Amy Butler of the Calvary Baptist Church has faced many challenges along gender lines in a male dominated field. She has overcome them to become a strong positive figure in the lives of her parishioners and other young women interested in going into ministry. She, and others in her congregation preach strength in the community, and ignore outdated gender-roles.
In this project I am documenting Rev. Amy’s role in her church. By recording her life as Senior Pastor at Calvary, I am creating an image of one woman’s experience with shifting paradigms regarding women in the church.
