The winter of 1976-77, Old Farm, Little Stainton, North Yorkshire. Cyril Richardson and his family rear pigs and kill them each Christmas, curing the hams and flitches, rolling the bacon. Others in this story are Cyril's wife Elsie and his daughter Helen. The farmer lad is son-in-law Tony Critchley. The butcher is Everett Moore and his assistant (with specs) is Jim Woodhouse. The man wearing the ICI coat is Herbert Bray.
