The Subject is a digital character animation about a creature's search for survival in an abstract world. With features derived from various animals, the character is reminiscent of a genetically altered creature forced by its master(s) to run through an experiment. This mutant test subject must gather the strength and courage to overcome whatever obstacles are in its path or else face possible defeat.
The Subject, an animation by Spencer Diaz, was created as a senior thesis project at Carnegie Mellon University. The character was keyframe animated in Maya as a single edit and then composited into the environment using After Effects. The environment, as well as the render style, was created using both Maya and After effects.
