We follow an abandoned boy through a deserted town as he searches for coins. When he is caught trying to steal a coin from a man sleeping on a bench, the boy runs away to the shelter of his makeshift home in an empty building. He empties his bag of coins into a box and goes to sleep. As his eyes shut, we hear his mother's voice teaching him how to count by dropping coins into a jar.
This bittersweet story was inspired by the resilient children left behind in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004. Despite losing everything, including their families, they carried on, clinging to a photograph or hair ribbon or a shirt - anything that reminded them of the life they had before tragedy struck.
