ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
In 2012 I commenced the 'Lost Girls, Strong Girls and the Assembled Image' project with the help of Arts Queensland and the RADF. In this investigation I have focused on moving image and the tangible existence of fictional/non-fictional texts. In addition, the production of two-dimensional Collage aligned with the making of two videos: 'Poppy Fields (Lost Girl's Dream Sequence)' and 'Flying Girl'. Each of these videos contained elements of personal familiarity and experimentation (i.e. performance). The artworks produced for the 'Lost Girls...' exhibition highlight subtle notions of feminism and self-reflection. At the same time my objective was to bring into question the way we perceive a female protagonist or in the case of some non-fictional texts – how we visually identify with the ‘lone woman’. I have explored a myriad of storybook symbols, unknown beginnings, fake clues, dreamscapes, character profiles and real-world issues.
*This project was also supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund through Arts Queensland and the Gold Coast City Council.
