This hyper-slow motion shot was created through the use of 2D and 3D. The background was stitched together by Alex Jevon, the 3D artist who also built and textured a replica of the live action prop gun. My role as compositor involved the choice and integration of live action elements to enhance the shot. Three separate explosion elements were retimed and combined to create the muzzle flash and a further two made up the impact with the armoured vest at the end of the shot. The pressure wave created by the bullet was driven by a 3D element which was used to distort the RBG colour channels of the various layers to create a prismatic effect. This was referenced from live action, hyper-slow motion footage of bullets and other projectiles, but exaggerated for the audience.
