Since the end of the 19th Century, when science finally took precedence over religion explanatory mechanism, nature lost more and more of its sovereign role in people's lives. Evermore effectively exploiting its resources, the once feared, powerful player got diminished to a mere servant to mankind. In Retrospective, the human behavior leading the climate crisis today can be traced back, as early as the beginning of the industrialization in western Europe.
Even though, the finite nature of resources and the dependence of man on his environment nowadays are social consensuses, the independent role of nature keeps being denied. Emblematic of the supposed self-sufficiency of the modern man by nature is its relationship with the forest, once the land of mystery ant now turned into wood supply and recreational space.
The forest forms, as a modern fairy-tale backdrop, the main subject of the short film "Ashes In The Fall". In quiet, poetic scenes "Ashes In The Fall" leads us in an estranged habitat. The imagery conveys a nostalgic extract of the real world. Counter-cut is a young woman, continuously shattering ashes in a stove. Whether an act of purification, nostalgia, aggression or mystic is performed, remains open.The controversy between these two sceneries back paddles the observer and instinctively brings to mind images of fairy tales. However, reality emerges as something different .Snow cannons do their best and bedazzle the landscape into a winter "wonder"land, so that technique seems to be victorious. However, as nature becomes a manufacturable illusion, what is missing is the rejuvenating act of regeneration after cremation. In today's alienation from nature, the inner search for an estranged "real reality", oftentimes has to remain unsuccessful.
