This spring, students in Wide Angle's Mentoring Video Project are making a short film about breaking the cycle of violence in Baltimore City. Across the nation, violent crime and youth incarceration is down. But, in Baltimore, the rate of violent crime is more than six times over the national average. In their film, our youth producers will look at how a lack of resources and opportunities condemns young people to repeat a cycle of violence that has played out for years in Baltimore. We will profile families that have lost youth to violence and young people who have thought that violence is their own option. We will also profile organizations working to promote peace in Baltimore, who can show us how investing in resources for families and youth can work to stop the cycle of violence in our city.
