Commissioned by WOMAD 2013 Taranaki New Zealand.
One of 2 light totems exploring audience interactions with sound, light and movement.
This totem featured paintings by NZ artist Fane Flaws, interactive programming by MULK (Chris Macmillan) and a standalone work called CUSP integrated for interaction.
CUSP designed by product designer Doug Makinson is a turntable mounted with photosensitive disc that maps a laser-light's history of random movements created when audiences swing a double jointed arm.
CUSP had sensors added for this installation, triggering responses to the programmed lighting of totem. The movements were also captured with a webcam and relayed to x2 screens in the totem.
Metamorphosis I was designed & built by Ashley Turner for WOMAD 2013.
