How Nature Colors Our Lives
The woven “ikat” cloth is one of the unique characteristis of the indigenous Dayak Desa in the District of Sintang. Since before, this woven “ikat” cloth has been produced by women from the tribes of the Dayak Desa, Dayak Iban and other Dayak tribes.
In Sintang there are at least 300 women actively involved in weaving activities spread across several sub districts.
Over time, the interest of the women to weave ikat started to dwindle, this was influenced by the entrance of textiles from outside that could be processed easily and thus the tradition was almost abandoned.
