What is the responsibility of design within the lives of obese people? As a previously marginalized but emerging population, obese people represent specific design challenges in order to meet their emotional and practical needs without sacrificing aesthetics.
Bridgeable’s team of Social Scientists, Industrial Designers and Healthcare Professionals set out to answer this question by conducting a long-term internal project that focused on the human experience. Leveraging leading edge social science practices and ethnography, the team created Misfit, the first in a series of Bridgeable documentaries intended to reveal the process of designing for real world needs. Based on the insights brought to life in Misfit, the team was able to confront in-going notions and biases around what design should provide a target population to prototype seating concepts that are deeply inspirational, motivational and actionable.
