"Ligilo" is a collaborative interdisciplinary performance directed by Iu-Hui Chua and created and performed by Bobby August Jr. and Iu-Hui Chua with music composed by Cheryl Leonard. Inspired by our hapa (bi-racial/multi-ethnic) backgrounds and the painful alienation we felt from our environments growing up, “Ligilo” explores a futile but insistent hunger for a belonging that was intangible and inaccessible. What is it we are searching for? What binds us to this insatiable desire to belong? How do people of multiple cultures find their place in between the spaces of their heritages? "Ligilo"* is our attempt to envision how our narratives of identity can meet with the idea of "becoming" in our reaching-towards, in every moment. Performed at the Mondavi Vanderhoef Studio, Davis, California, 2013
*”Ligilo” means “link “ in Esperanto, the international language.
