The whole of the Jewish Scriptures (both the Tanach & Newer [Renewed] Covenant) are delightfully textured and layered documents intended to shape our thoughts and guide our behavior as we read and interact with them. They narrate the actions of G-d in our history so as to inform our present and direct our future. As such, our history is the seedbed of our future. This is the way in which the later authors of Scripture understood and treated the earlier texts of Scripture as they wrote their own inspired texts; the past was used as a template for the future.
This brief seminar will unwrap a couple of key biblical texts so as to illustrate how to approach the Jewish Scriptures as modern Jews, e.g. seeing Judah Maccabee and David as important inspirations for Yeshua's life & work. It will trace the historical loops and echoes found in these texts. This will help us better read and integrate G-d's words as we ourselves become part of the spiral of history unfolding under G-d's direction.
Dr. Patrice and Rabbi John will lead this fascinating and eye-opening seminar. It is based on over 25 years of examining and teaching the Scriptures with fresh, Jewish eyes. When they taught this seminar for our sister synagogue in Beverly Hills, the "ooh's" and "ah's" from the participants were very audible. : )
