Jan Tchamani speaks about Grove Rd Social Centre on the Big Dig Day in Birmingham 16th March 2013, The invention and development of gardens and vegetable growing in the grounds around the tower blocks & flats, Funded by the Big Lottery, a careful development plan has brought the project one year on, as part of the regions Big Dig day for starting to grow veg for the summer, the residents of Brandwood have re-awoken the garden, repaired damage from the winter and started to plant new shrubs & fruit trees with the help of volunteers from the Jericho Foundation (supporting & training young people - who made bat & bird boxes & raised planters for the garden), and Spring to Life (therapeutic gardening.) Repairing the hedge and painting the boxes, looking at progress made and new projects. Jan is a writer and advocate for the group and older people, Jan Tchamani, who lives in Brandwood House and is the Secretary of the residents’ association and Project Co-ordinator for the estate’s community garden and lottery-funded Social Inclusion Project, has also become Age UK’s new Internet Champion.
