joyfullybecca.com Video of a silver maple tree we just tapped in our backyard. We have about a dozen maple trees that can be tapped on our property. The maple sugar flow rate was about one drop per second. It should speed up as the weather continues to warm. The sugar maple sap is basically water, only 1-2% sugar content. It will take several days, if not weeks to get enough sap to make maple syrup. After we have collected enough sap we boil off the water until a high sugar content syrup. It can take 50 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.
