René van Rems is a world-renowned ambassador of the floral industry. Originally from Amsterdam, Holland, René has called San Diego, California, home for over 30 years.
René is formally educated in the entire spectrum of floriculture through his studies at the world famous Rijksmiddelbare Tuinbouwschool at Aalsmeer (Floral Institute) in Holland. Considered a key influencer in the design industry, Rene travels the world as keynote speaker and performer, showcasing his European influence in home décor trends, floral & product design as well as high-end wedding décor and special event design. As a multiple-national award winning designer and instructor he gives workshops in Canada, Asia, United States and Europe. Rene also teaches master classes to international industry students at his San Diego based design studio.
He is a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) and the National Speakers Association (NSA). René’s continued support of the floral industry through growers, wholesalers, garden clubs, students and members of the floral community is what deemed him worthy of AIFD’s prestigious “Award of Distinguished Service to the Floral Industry” in 2009. This award, considered the “Oscar” of the industry endorses René’s significant contributions to the industry. In 1995 The American Horticultural Society awarded him the Francis Poetker award for outstanding achievements. He served nearly ten years as Director of Promotion for the California Cut Flower Commission conducting masterful “California Grown” promotions across the nation for California’s flower grower community. René has been featured in hundreds of articles in industry and consumer magazines and Home & Garden Television. He is the author of two self-published best-selling floral design books, namely; Rene’s Bouquets, A Guide to Euro-Style Hand-Tied Bouquets with over 24,000 sold and also Rene’s Bouquets For Brides.
