After we discovered a very cool little clothing store - in the Junction area of Toronto - where the styles are goth to industrial to avant garde - we thought it might be fun to do a combined photo shoot and sort of short documentary video.
With a zero budget and little in the way of equipment, certainly no budget for models, makeup artists or hair stylists, we had to get inventive.
So, we invited our friends Marze and Julie (both of them clothes lovers and pretty cool ladies), if they would like to be our "models" for a morning. They loved the idea and both wanted to do their own makeup, and I doubled as hairdresser and cinematographer.
Bruce Walker wanted to do a photo shoot because he loved the idea of the funky clothes and the wild makeup and hair. Some of the obstacles that he would find included very constrained space, lack of neutral backdrops and lack of proper lighting gear,
The store owner, Gabby, was excited about the plan since she felt it would help to bring some more attention to her store. Since she was extremely familiar with all the clothing lines, we asked her if she would be the "wardrobe designer", a role which she took on quite happily.
