Samuel Jones is beginning his second year of study in Classical Saxophone at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music. In his first year he won both the NZSM Concerto Competition and NZSM Woodwind Player of the Year.

In this performance he plays 'Mai' by Japanese composer Ryo Noda whose music draws heavily on shakuhachi influences while also incorporating a variety of extended techniques.

The performance was given as part of the 'Bis! Bis!' concert on 15 March 2013, in the NZSM's Friday Lunchtime Series. 'Bis! Bis!' is Italian for 'Again! Again!'. In this concert from the Classical Performance Programme at NZSM, five students who achieved outstanding results in their final assessments of 2012 were invited to give 'repeat performances'.
