The quality of the classroom teacher is the singular focus of Golden Apple's mission. Research has shown that teacher quality is the number one factor in a child's academic success. To that end, The Golden Apple Foundation strives to achieve their mission with three primary strategies:
Each year, since 1994, the foundation honors seven teachers from around our state based on their excellence in the classroom and their commitment to the teaching profession. Recognition alternates among high school, middle school, and elementary school teachers each year.
The Golden Apple Scholars Program is a comprehensive program to enhance teacher preparation and induction. Scholars are recruited among high school seniors who aspire to become teachers. Throughout their college preparation, Scholars participate in summer institutes that include teaching experience mentored by Gold Apple Award-Winning teachers and professional development to prepare them for success in college and in their teaching careers.
Golden Apple recipients gather regularly, sharing strategies with each other that contribute to their continued classroom excellence and that build their capacity to mentor colleagues.
