They say necessity is the mother of invention. For Steve Hindy this meant brewing beer in the bathroom of his hotel room. Working as a foreign correspondent for the associated press, Steve spent many years in war torn Middle Eastern countries where Islamic law prevented him from buying beer, so he and his colleagues learned to brew their own. After a series of life threatening encounters—car bombs, kidnappings, and assassinations—he returned to the States to work at Newsday. Unsatisfied with his desk job, his passion for brewing led him to found the Brooklyn Brewery. Twenty five years later he is one of the largest craft brewers in America.
