On April 4, Gathie Falk, 85, receives the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Visual Arts. The prize is awarded to a B.C. artist each year. To mark the 10th year of the award, this year two artists will receive the $30, 000 prize. Landscape painter Takao Tanabe, 86, will also receive the award. Falk’s work covers nearly every medium—ranging from performance art to painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. This is not her first time winning a substantial art award—she also won the Gershon Iskowitz art prize, the Order of Canada and the Governor General’s Award for Visual Arts. Falk has no plans to retire. She continues to hold art shows once every one to two years.
