A few months ago I had the opportunity to tag along with some friends to an informal meet up on the Columbia river arranged by Greg Miller of Big Rocks Long Props fame.
He'd proposed a "challenge" of sorts on the Internet for local pilots to meet up at the island, where he would show them a few of his favorite off-airport spots in follow-the-leader fashion. The turnout was great-- pilots showed up from all around the local area, and even some from Seattle.
It turns out that the real challenge is to not cream your shorts on a day like this. Perfect weather, big tires, great surface conditions, and good people all combined to make a day that represents the best in flying.
