In preparation for Earth Week 2012, the University of Oregon Center for Sustainable Business Practices’ chapter of Net Impact founded a shoe recycling initiative benefitting Nike Reuse-A-Shoe and Hope4Hoopers, dubbed "A Step in the Right Direction."
Net Impact recruited us to design and build their flagship recycling bin. During the inaugural collection period, from April to June 2012, nearly 3,000 individual athletic shoes were collected.
It was a whirlwind of work to design and build the ShoeBox in time to meet the deadline, but we had so much fun doing it. In this video, we've complied a few of photos we shot along the way, and even a massively sped-up segment of us putting it all together in the middle of the night. Until my iPhone died, at least.
And a Few Thanks & A Little Recognition:
The ShoeBox is the product of interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Oregon between the Center for Sustainable Business Practices, the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center, the Department of Architecture, Net Impact, and O Heroes. The project was financed by the University of Oregon Student Sustainability Grant.
The “Oregon O” is a registered trademark of the University of Oregon.
