A favorite for hula, both kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern), this lovely old chant was originally written to honor Queen Kapiolani, but was rewritten to honor Queen Lili`uokalani as an expression of loyalty by the author, Antone Kao`o. A western melody with chordal harmony as composed by John Kaulia.
I've played this song since my beginning slack key days, and included it on my first CD. This performance was captured at Aloha Friday in Downtown Pleasant Hill on August 28, 2009. The main video was shot with a Sanyo Xacti HD2000, wide shot with a Creative Vado HD. The audio chain consists of the Tony Yamamoto OMY guitar, Pick Up The World Stealth undersaddle pickup and preamp, TC Electronics G Natural processor, and the direct input of the Xacti. Edited in Adobe PE7.
