Collaborative Cinema is a behind-the-scenes look at Milwaukee Film's educational program whose goal is to teach high school students the skills of screenwriting and filmmaking and help to support and grow the local film industry. Professional filmmakers work with Milwaukee area high school classrooms to engage students with a series of storytelling and filmmaking workshops. Students from these two series are then invited to participate in a large scale production shoot, where they help re-create a scene from a movie. Selected students then move to the next round and work one-on-one with a professional director and producer to submit a final draft. Finally, one screenplay is chosen to be made into a movie. In 2010 the winning screenplay, Spare Change, was written by Alexis Daubner.
