On 29 May 2008, Distance Lab hosted an Open Studio event focussed on the themes of "Machined Craft" and "Haute Tech".
This is the presentation by Di Mainstone, creator of interactive couture garments that playfully explore human behaviour. She discussed her evolution from established London-based fashion designer to nomadic creator of "Haute Tech". More specifically she looked at a selection of her work in the field of interactive fashion including Company Keeper, Emotional Ties, Skorpions and ShareWear. Di reflected upon the relevance of this kind of work in both the world of research and fashion as well as discussed her plans for the future.
Di was trained in fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, and has created work in the past for Topshop, Urban Outfitters, and Jimmy Choo.
