MCPs' Integration in China: This video is part of an ongoing collaboration between China Development Brief and the MA in International Multimedia Journalism by Bolton University at Beijing's FSU. It was included in an ibook about the NGO Huiling.
Huiling is one of the oldest NGOs in China. Focusing on mentally impaired Young Adults, their strong need to socialize and actively contribute to the community, so as to escape both, alienation and discrimination, it is quite unique. It is the only association of this kind which exclusively focalizes on adults and young adults.
At Huiling schools the students are educated through workshops, so as to learn practical skills helping them to look for a job and live in autonomy. Moreover, numerous students are provided with the chance to live in 'family-houses', in which MCPs can mutually help each-other to become independent.
This project was filmed and edited by myself (Sabrina Merolla) and my friends Morten Luxhoi, Billy Kwok, Sharron Lowell (our amazing teacher).
