The Gibb River Road begins in the Town of Derby. It is is the 4WD option of the 2 main routes crossing the Kimberley from east to west (or vice versa) and provides access to the numerous gorges that are the main highlight. The first 65 km's out of Derby are sealed; 640 km's to Kununurra are unsealed. The air was very hot and humid, so the aircon blew cold damps through the vents; they even iced up regularly.
Some impressions of how it looks to drive the unsealed roads and highways in the Australian outback. We travelled from Perth to Darwin, in a hired Land Rover 110 300 Tdi Defender. We rented the vehicles from AussieTrax.
