March and April are two of my favorite months of the year. The mountains usually have a good snowpack allowing for great touring in the morning and enough daylight to fish until the evening. As the daylight grows longer and the snow recedes from the river banks, we welcome large fish rising to Blue Winged Olive mayflies. Temperamental weather, snowy peaks, and crystal clear water provide a beautiful backdrop to large rainbow trout dressed in full spawning colors. I can think of no better time to chase large trout with a tenkara rod.
