A comparison between 4 condenser microphones - the FX-510 and 960 - two microphones produced by Yoga - a big Chinese audio manufacturer, the EM-1 which is a side-fire hyper-cardioid microphone and the MC10 - a microphone with interchangeable capsules, like the old AKG 451 series. This one fitted with the cardioid capsule. The video enables you to see how they were placed. The second section is an acoustic steel strung, 6 string guitar to give a musical comparison. The video repeats 5 times. The first time through the microphones are switches quickly so you can hear the small differences. Then each section is repeated on a single mic. There are on-screen details of which one you are listening to.
The mics were connected to a digital X32 mixer that connected via USB2 to a computer running Cubase 7. No eq was used, and gains adjusted on the desk to give a unity response. The wav files are available shortly on the limelight.org.uk site.
