Tag Line: Courage is grace under pressure
A young Asian-American girl feels pressured to be the perfect violinist. When tensions collide at the anticipated violin audition, which path will she follow? The life she wants, or the one her mother has paved for her?
This drama explores Asian-Western cultural identity and one of the most unique aspects of Asian culture: the relationship between women.
For my thesis film “Push & Pull” I wanted to make something that not only accurately portrayed young Asian women, but that also commented on the social limbo that is often felt from young people growing up in different cultural backgrounds. I wanted to use the medium of film as a way to explore cinema as cultural representation and to address the basic need to see an accurate depiction of my own identity on screen.
