Speaker: YANG Yu-liang, President of Fudan University, Shanghai
Professor YANG Yu-liang is a renowned scientist and educator from China. A chemist by profession, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003, the highest honor bestowed to a scientist in China. His research interest is in condensed matter physics and polymer science. He has served as the President of Fudan University since 2009.
Prior to his appointment as the University President, he also served a stint as the head of the State Council's Academic Degrees Committee and as the top administrator in the Ministry of Education in charge of undergraduate and graduate education in the country. In 2009, he hosted President Obama's dialogue with youths in Shanghai during Obama's visit to China.
Professor Yang is a forceful voice in China advocating the strengthening of humanities and social science education in college and post-graduate studies.
