Named after Ashé’s co-founder, Douglas Redd (1947-2007), Redd Linen Night is a celebration of his visual artistry. His work has been described as the pivotal graphic influence for many of the African, African American and Caribbean programs and events held in New Orleans, as far back as the 1970s.
Redd Linen Night took place February 23, 2013, featured Redd’s work and that of artists Gus Bennett, Eric Waters, Dr. Foots, Cfreedom, Cherice Harrison-Nelson, Big Chief Darryl Montana, Karel Sloane Boekbinder, Paul Deo, Sheila Phipps, Tevis Jones, Sandra Blakely, Ayo Scott, Shakor, Victor G. Robinson and Wanda Wiggins.
A Student Gallery featured work created by Ashé’s Kuumba Institute and student work created with Guardians of the Flame during the VAN residency with guest artist Joe Mangrum at the Moton Charter School.
The Visual Artists Network (VAN), a national network of visual artists, curators, and exhibitors provides opportunities and subsidy support for under-recognized visual artists, nurtures the creation of experimental artwork and supports the touring of contemporary visual artists and their work.
The Visual Artists Network is made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the Nathan Cummings Foundation.
