Maximo, a Mexican wrestler, has built a homosexual character in the ring, although he himself isn’t gay. The same contradiction is revealed by the fact that he has nicknamed himself after a Roman emperor, thus creating a parody of masculinity as opposed to his purported sexual orientation. He therefore has to face the rudeness of his opponents, but also the critics from his family, the inclusion in the gay community as well as his female audience, who does not believe he is an “exotic wrestler”.
