Low Mass Star Formation in The Solar Neighborhood
Maheswar Gopinathan, Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES)
I will be talking about the Bok Globules that are identified as the sites of low mass star formation. These globules are cold and molecular in nature. The study of Bok Globules are very important as they provide an ideal laboratory to carry out research to understand the processes involved in their formation, evolution and subsequent formation of stars. In my talk I will be presenting general properties of these globules and the evidence of star formation in a number of them. I will also talk about the current knowledge we gathered regarding the low mass star formation from the research on Bok Globules.
