How was your weekend?
Me? Mine was interesting.
I had a unique opportunity to hang out with some really amazing people and see one of WA’s amazing coastlines – Margaret River.
As soon as we arrived we pretty much hit the beach to do some exploring.
I had my camera in one hand and my underwater housing in the other; after all you never know what you might see, right?
There were black rocks scattered throughout the shoreline and without a thought I started to walk across them.
As soon as I stepped onto the shiny black surface I started rock skating at speed!
I lost my balance, and all I can remember is standing one second, and on my back the next. The problem was that I landed full weight onto my right knee, I won’t lie, I swore pretty loud!
Instantly by my side were Alex and Serena. As they approached to assist me they almost slipped over the rock too. The faces of shock are still sketched in my mind.
I gingerly climbed up to my feet to feel the damage, and nope… it wasn’t good.
In fact I had never felt a pain like it ever before. I knew I was in trouble when I couldn’t place any weight on it.
Fortunately I had Ruslan, Alex, Serena and Suzanah to help me through the ordeal and although my weekend of planned oceanic activities were scrapped, I still managed to have a rocking weekend. Rocked. Rocking. So many rocks!
Towards the end I started to go over the event in my mind. That noise of my bone slamming on the rock is lodged vividly in my head.
I wondered if I could re-create the sound effect somehow?
So late Sunday arvo I tried smashing a few objects on to various surfaces to replicate the sound. While I did this, Serena and Alex trekked back down to the place of carnage and captured some scenes for me.
As you will see in the video above, the winner is a sweet potato dropped into a shallow filled frying pan!
The pain is still with me and I’m still staggering about but I’ll live to film another day.
As for that rock, I think it will remember me too because when Alex and Serena returned to the beach, they reported back that they’d noticed I had left some scratches on the slippery surface where I body slammed.
What sound effect could sum up your weekend?
