During her time at Nipissing University, Emily Gray was a co-recipient of a research grant from the Royal Canadian Geographic Society (RCGS). As biology students at Nipissing, Emily Gray, Sara Laplante and Kerri Moreau-Sawyer, worked in Newfoundland’s Gros Morne National Park, and conducted research on the role of site conditions and moose browsing pressure in the regeneration failure of balsam fir forests.
