Awrrr Oostende is a small webapp we had to create in collaboration with a group of students from Tourisme. They came to us as a client with a concept and we had to create the final working webapp.
The concept was to create a mobile web game in which kids could explore the city of Oostende (Belgium). The game had to have a little pirate story about captain Goudbaard (dutch for Goldbeard) who lost his boat and his treasure. The child has to help him to get back to his ship and open up his treasure. By reaching each location, they would have to play a small puzzle before knowing the way to the next location.
The end location had to be the Mercator.
This concept was given to us on a monday morning.. and had to be ready the friday evening of the same week (5 days of hard work)
At first we though to us a treasure map, but because there were 2 other groups on the same project that probably also would get to that idea, we tried to do something different with the concept.
So our final idea was to represent the travel distance with a vertical line on which the head would indicate the current location of the player holding the iphone. When the player comes close enough to a location on the line, the corresponding minigame would popup. After solving the minigame the player would continue going to the next location.
At the end of the game the player has to open up the treasure with the keys he won before.
