For well over 20 years pianist John Medeski has been part of the trio Medeski, Martin and Wood and raised the bar on jazz and funk. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native got his start playing classical piano and segued to jazz and funk into his teens. Over the years he's backed and performed with the likes of Robert Randolph, John Scofield, Iggy Pop, John Laurie and John Zorn.
In his long career he just recorded his debut solo CD "A Different Time" on the newly revived Okeh Records label. Instead of playing his famous Steinway piano, he played a Gaveau, an older style kind of pre-piano used before the piano became a staple in classical music. The new recording is a solo piano project in which John dives into his original compositions as well as spirituals and country music.
This is the first time John will also be performing a series of club dates in which he performs the music solo across the country. For upcoming info on club dates as well as to order John's lastest CD "A Different Time", please visit him online at johnmedeski.com.
