HMS St Lawrence was the most impressive warship launched during the War of 1812. Built in Kingston, larger than Nelson's Victory, she was commissioned too late to affect the naval war on the Great Lakes. Laid up after the War, she spent several years in 'mothballs' before sale to a local business for use as a floating warehouse. Her final resting place is close to shore, prey to ice damage annually and to wave action. Although little remains of the truly massive warship, the size and scale of the close-spaced timbers that remain are testament to a truly mighty vessel built very strongly and well to withstand shot and shell.
