Final project for my minor -
Worldwide scenarios of climate change indicate that the climate variability observed in recent times is likely to increase and intensify. Global fresh water sources are scarce and shrinking further due to increased pollution and climatic changes. Such increased concentrations of water use and discharge add ever more stress to limited local resources. The US Environmental Protection Agency through the Office of Wastewater Management is poised in becoming the leading voice in advancing technologies that promote wastewater reclamation and reuse. Although the United States lags behind in these efforts, however, current climate change impacts on watersheds and increased temperatures have promoted interest on programs that promote wastewater recycling and reuse.
The objective of this project is to propose ways in which wastewater technologies and education could be promoted in the United States. The project experiences will be captured through targeted questionnaires, interviews, and extrapolated into an informative video to raise awareness. The outcome of the project will leverage ongoing initiatives within the Office of Wastewater Management. In addition, the project will support ongoing wastewater research at Spelman College. Furthermore, it would contribute towards a nation-wide sustainability development programs that include college campuses with the goal of giving students increased voice for water conservation.
