‘Cell’ is a jewellery collection that explores the pleating of precious metals to form a ring, earrings, necklace, and bracelet. The project is a result of a close collaboration between Benjamin Hubert and German jeweller, Biegel.
The construction of ‘Cell’ is driven by a series of undulating soft folds in 0.4mm sheets of precious metal. The individual layers are soldered together to create a high strength to weight ratio based upon a honeycomb construction. The waste material from each piece is melted down and recycled to make the next piece. The collection is available in sterling silver, gold, and platinum.
Biegel adds Benjamin Hubert to a list of industrial design collaborations including Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Tom Dixon, and Konstantin Grcic.
