Honoring the legacy of hundreds of massacred Soweto township children by South Africa’s apartheid regime in 1976, The Youth Resiliency Institute’s (YRI) Soweto ‘76 is a Baltimore-based ensemble comprised of children, youth and young adults from diverse cultural backgrounds who forward the call for social justice through vocal and instrumental music.
Under the tutelage of Youth Resiliency Institute co-founder/singer Navasha Daya and YRI co-founder/guitarist Fanon Hill, youth ensemble members collectively work to generate fresh narratives, symbolism and songs celebrating cultural brilliance, community and family in Baltimore, Maryland and beyond.
