An Oasis Bible Study based on George H. Guthrie's "Read the Bible for Life | Listen. Understand. Respond." Michael Hockett teaches how to understand the story of Scripture, and how its various parts fit together, in so doing, they understand how they fit into that story.
The law teaches a covenant people how to live well for God and provides a mean of forgiveness when they fail. How do we, as Christians, read the law:
Are there direct commands that are emphasized in the New Testament?
Has the New Testament shown the law to be no longer directly applicable?
What are the principles behind this law that reflect God's values?
Where do the prophets fit into the story? How do they relate to the covenant? Most of the prophets tend to follow this pattern: A call to covenant faithfulness, judgment is coming if you don't respond, and hope of a future. How do we, as Christians, read the prophets:
What does it mean to love God with covenant faithfulness?
What are my idols?
Address injustice and lack of concern for the poor.
God still calls us to repentances.
What is God's kingdom vision for the future?
