A massive unknown submerged object causes this basalt formation, “Mt. Jim”, in remote north-east Victoria, Australia, to have a magnetic anomaly - very noticable 20 degree magnetic compass variation. Trying to visualize these abstract 3D magnetic forms on site, I used compass, measurements, markers, lighting, and long exposure photographic ‘night drawings’. From this on site action came a series of hand drawings, maps and diagrams, and sculptural works.
