Saturday marked the 8th annual "Record Store Day," a promotional event created by independent music stores to encourage consumers to buy their music locally. Many independent record stores in Baltimore say the event is their busiest day of the year. The stores have benefited from an increase in sales of vinyl records, which last year saw the largest year-over-year increase in revenue since 1973.
