During the fall, winter and spring months, Dr. Gehron Treme and other sports medicine physicians see plenty of winter sports-related injuries, like those sustained while skiing and snowboarding. Taos Ski Valley recently gave Treme and a team of researchers an opportunity to learn more about those injuries. In 2008, the venerable New Mexico resort lifted its ban on snowboarders, allowing them to enjoy what had until then been a skiers-only mountain. Researchers studied injury rates before and after the ban was lifted, and found that while injuries did indeed increase, snowboarding in and of itself isn't necessarily to blame.
