312Park is a smartphone app designed to help drivers decode parking in Chicago. April Starr's Service Design Workshop challenged teams to develop services that harness the vast amount of data and data exhaust collected by city government. With nearly half a million people commuting into Chicago each weekday, the team saw an opportunity to use data to explore and improve the process of finding and paying for parking. 312Park transforms this process from a slog through a Byzantine compendium of incoherent regulations into an efficient, seamless, and ultimately joyful experience. This teaser video highlights select features of the product.
